L.A. Hugenberg:
"How did Annie Otto die? This is a story about roller-skating and the aching weight of memories laid to rest. About Lily, an old friend who taught me everything. About skating in my kitchen when I had nowhere else to go. About starting over, about wanting back what was lost, and about the desperate hope that maybe (just maybe) things can still be good, even if they’ll never be the same. And, of course, about Annie Otto - Who is (probably) fine."
Melina Scotte:
"Inspired by summer days, music and the inspiration of the moment. - The purpose with my art is to allow viewers to see something from their own perspective and to be able to transmit beauty and imagination through my artwork."
This event is sponsored by a grant from Healing Illinois in support of SSSA's Explorations of Equity in the Arts in Elgin project. Explorations of Equity in the Arts in Elgin is a SSSA's initiative designed to uplift and support artists of color through curated exhibitions, artist-driven merchandise, and free community workshops. Focused on advancing racial equity in the local arts scene, the program provides financial support, creative opportunities, and space for dialogue, connection, and healing. By fostering inclusion both within Side Street and the wider Elgin community, Explorations of Equity in the Arts works to build lasting change through the power of art and shared experience.
