WORKSHOP SERIES
REST AS RESISTANCE
Saturday April 26 1pm - 4pm, Saturday May 17 1pm - 4pm, and Saturday May 24 1pm - 4pm
Side Street Studio Arts would like to invite you for a series of workshops centered around the ever-important topic of rest. Drawing from decades of experience in somatic movement and creative practices, Luiza Moraes leads this series of workshops with the intention of restoring our inherent access to rest. In contrast to the relentless productivity-driven culture, the focus here is on a self-paced, curiosity-driven journey of exploration and play.
By stepping away from the colonial fixation on speed, we center our attention on comfort, ease, and safety. Through gentle movement practices, we nurture nervous system regulation and cultivate the ability to discern when to move and when to pause. In the supportive space of community, we embrace playfulness as the true measure of our well-being.
Practices include free writing, constructive rest, and the Feldenkrais Method. No prior experience with art or specific movement practices is necessary. You may sign up for one, two or all workshops.

MONOPRINT WORKSHOP
Thursday, May 1 from 5:30pm - 7pm
The monoprint is an artistic technique that produces unique prints. Monoprint helps artists to feel free and not overthink a composition, in fact, the monoprinting process forces artists to "listen" to the art, and use the "mistakes" to create the final compositions. Monoprints start as an abstract art piece that needs to be transformed by the artist by "listening" to the art. Changes need to be added to the composition, using a wide variety of techniques, from traditional to non-traditional materials and techniques.
During this workshop, attendees would be able to learn about the monoprint technique, what it is and how to use it to create art in a simple but powerful way and take it from there, to keep exploring with the media and process to discover new ways of art production.
